I Learned Something New Today

Now, I realise that this is going to probably be a be a bit mental to most people. In fact I’m flabbergasted myself. lol!

Today I learned my grandfathers christian name.

I’m not joking.

We all did actually.

As they lowered him into the ground I caught sight of the plaque adorning his coffin. I leaned forward following it with my eyes into the ground. & I thought I was seeing things. Then when they put the little marker beside the grave there it was.

& we went for tea, there I told my mother who didn’t know either, & my sister, who also didn’t have a clue.

So here we are. Me at forty & my sister at forty-four learning our grandfathers name for the first time. & my mother learning her own fathers name for the FIRST TIME!!!

Harold. His name was Harold. We had always assumed Henry. Who wouldn’t with him going by Harry?

I’m amazed actually 😂😂😂

Why, after all you've posted, am I not surprised your mother didn't know her father's real name? :-)
@ArtieKat Lol! But in her defence; Harry is a diminutive of Henry. It just is. & sure he’s her daddy. She’d just have addressed him as such 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m still amazed though. Lol!

@SevenTierCrazyCake Normally though there are things around at home - books etc - which have someone's full name...
@ArtieKat everything said Harry. I remember seeing his driving licence once: Harry. Which isn’t uncommon, here at least. Neither my mothers driving licence nor passport are adorned with her birth name... but I do know exactly what that was 😂

@ArtieKat LMAO! I’m just trying to explain it in my head. Don’t mind me.
