I Don't Believe In God

Most certainly not since I consider myself a little more educated than people from the dark ages who believed the world was flat. When the extremely rich churches demanded loyalty and ruled over everyone, also that you should be burned at the stake for being a non believer. What nice people them god fearing religious folk were.
Gee how can people still be so simple minded in this day and age ?

I think you might benefit from a little education yourself instead of this sort of dumb reductionism. People were not burned at the stake for being non believers. They were burned for be
Ie ing the Bible rTher than the dogmas of the church.

@Speedyman More childish insults I see. You're clearly incapable of rational argument.
Speedyman · 70-79, M
Interesting you always accuse others of the faults most prevalent in yourself. @suzie1960

@Speedyman Don't you have anything to offer other than childish insults?

Yes, it is astonishing so many religious people deny known facts in favour of believing a story book written during times when no one knew any better. It has to be said though, many religious people are intelligent enough not to believe in a literal interpretation of the bible, thankfully.

You talked about 'hypocritical thinking' which is name calling. @fazer1k
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@Speedyman That isn't name calling - a name requires a noun.

"You're a silly old fart" is name calling.

I thought you were supposed to be the one with a brain.

You are incredible! 😄@fazer1k

I hear you. But I'm a lot more educated than people from the dark ages. Nobody is demanding to rule over me. I keep up with science. And I believe in God.

Many churches have been used to manipulate the masses. The media today is often used to manipulate the masses. Some people who read, watch or listen to the media are simple minded. Many others do so with critical thinking. Investigative journalists have done some amazing work.
Not all churches burnt people at the stake, etc. Churches are responsible for many good things in society we take for granted too. To decide all evils done by any church at any time = all churches and belief - is that really an intelligent analysis of the history?
Governments have been responsible for more horrors than religions. They've demanded loyalty, killed people, started wars... But they've also played a positive role when used well.

@Abstraction I also hear what you say and will agree that in modern times churches have done many good things in society. However as for those dark times you had to believe in their god not any others, that is where religion has it's roots. There are hundreds of religions and depending on where you were born in the world each one has their own god whose god is the right god ?.
Yes governments may have caused more horrors than religion but that in no way excuses religions because someone caused more horrors and wars.
I will not be drawn into an argument which would be stupid because a belief is simply a belief nothing more, no one can prove their god exists for that matter no one can disprove it.

This is the standard argument of people who do not want to think through the issues. Some of us have and studied the issues and come to different conclusions. @onlythemessenger

@onlythemessenger 'In no way excuses the religions.' Hmm...
In those days all people belonged to religion and did everything in 'god's' name - even though almost every atrocity was about power, control, ethnic conflict, etc, and neither Buddha nor Christ taught anyone to commit these kinds of atrocities (they taught the opposite).

In the last 100 years we finally have atheism, and we find exactly the same things happening - on a bigger scale - for power, control, ethnic conflict, etc.

I think you'll find the common denominator is human nature.

An educated non thinker. Doesn't surprise me at all. Most non believers are a few bricks short of a full load.
onlythemessenger · 70-79, M
@hippyjoe1955 Thank you for your somewhat blunt comments yes most non believers are stupid, a typical answer.
I will not be drawn into an argument which would be stupid because a belief is simply a belief nothing more, no one can prove their god exists for that matter no one can disprove it.
I just find it very difficult to accept if your god is a great all seeing caring super being why is there so much hurt in the world.
