Do you ever use semicolons? [I Hate Bad Grammar]

Do you use them regularly in everyday writing/texting or only when writing a paper?

They are perhaps the least-understood punctuation mark.

I think they have their place in a sentence; sometimes a comma just isn't enough.

@CheshireCatalyst Good job professor!

I like the semicolon, and I use it quite frequently. The semicolon links two sentences to each other, whereas the period ("full stop"!) separates them; that's why the semicolon is a useful punctuation mark.

@helenS Yep. Once I learned how to properly use it, I realized it was very useful.

I use them all over the place. Meaningfully. Not often, because crisp writing communicates.

I do, but only if they're appropriate. They tend to be more so when writing formally, I find.

I’m taking online courses that require writing essays, so I use it mainly for that.

@SW-User Lol. Interesting song but not grammatically correct.

@SW-User haha I watched this with my class

@SW-User The key is to watch it to the end! I remember when I first saw this I was like "this is so wrong! 😠". Then I saw the end and realized they knew what they were doing.

It's a great parody of "hashtag rap" though.

When I teach grammar

@SW-User You teach grammar? That's awesome. I'm a T.A. in linguistics. I taught a small summer class on English grammar last year.

@SW-User That's cool. I teach Year 6 and English lead. Dont go by my typos.

I use them pretty regularly.
No, just commas
