Why was I ordered to go to court?

There’s a domestic violence case against my ex that happened last year... and now all of a sudden I get a notice that says it’s summoning me to appear in court to testify. I really don’t want to. This is giving me major anxiety.

You need an advocate to go with you. Ask the court how they handle these situations. If you were a victim of DV, contact the victims' advocate office, probably through your governor's office, or prosecutor's office.

Stop running and hiding.
If the DV case doesn't personally involve you....

Call the prosecutors office and ask if you can answer their question(s) via affidavit... Or alternatively ask if you can testify via Zoom.

@Threepio I’m the victim in the case so it kinda does involve me
@StarletPea Then you must answer the summons by attending and testifying unless he pleads out.

It’s an important part of the process that you be available to tell a judge what happened. Hopefully you can get some support either from police or court victim services or an agency that assists victims. Hopefully this step can become part of your healing journey rather than a setback.
