I have so many assignments and exams coming up and I also have to prepare for my grandma’s funeral and help out my family with things.

How do I explain to my professors that I’m overwhelmed and need more time? :(

You do just that... you explain what's going on and that while you want to remain on the course could you please have an extension/or concession so that you can manage during this stressful time.
They should listen!

Write an email like this to them. They are also human and been thriugh this themselves. Might understand and help

Just tell them that. They have probably lost a loved one and can understand

Talk to your counselor/advisor they're used to doing that

The last time I approached a University Professor with the same question, his answer was that I have two options available to myself:

1) either come in and my write exams on the scheduled date like everyone else,

or 2) agree to forfeit the subject I had chosen as part of my curriculum and have my university records indicate that I never even started the subject-class in the first place... but that no tuition would be refunded to me, but only that on record it would show I had not failed the subject due to my failure to show up prepared to write the exams.

His message to me was, "the show must go on regardless of life's circumstances".

In my case, I chose to forfeit the subject and have my university record show that I never started the class in the first place. [/c]
