Do you have to go to church every week?

My stepmom makes me go to church every week we have outside mass even why cant we not go sometimes? why do you have to go every week ?

I grew up attending Mass every week with my family, but when I was 16 I joined the Unitarian church, and eventually I stopped attending church. After I divorced, the first time, the option to be forgiven was not available to me. I began to attend again, (a different church), but I've fallen back into my old habits in the past two years.

The truth is, it isn't all right, but when you stop attending church, you make it so.

Your stepmother is right. She knows that skipping church will lead you down a path of distance from your own religion.

@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP It was before divorcees and murderers and any sin, no matter how black, could be forgiven by the church once a year, at the Feast of Divine Mercy.

I did go to church once more, after Saint Faustina and her vision for forgiveness for everyone was made known to me, and I was forgiven and allowed to receive communion.
@4meAndyou Christ is always available to you no matter where you are. And he always is willing to forgive at any time.

@ReflectionsInTime Catholics didn't always have the forgiveness option available, in the bad old days, but things have changed, now.

I go to church regularly but not because I think that going to church plays any roll in my salvation. I go because I enjoy meeting with fellow believers and singing hymns and preaching and teaching and encouraging others in their faith walk.

Key thing here, is being made to go. You are an adult, it should be your choice. If you believe then going is something you want to do, if not then don't.

@BobGrant45 I've never heard of a church giving a penalty for leaving. I have but I'm just saying my church would never do that. We are free to come and go as we please. If you're not benefiting from it, then why do you attend?

It's for her more than you I'd guess. I bet she puts posh gear on to go, too. My mum never did that. She's not against but she didn't force me to go. Just tell her the devil looks more fun than god.

yea I hav to dress nice yuk@jackieash
I haven’t been to a synagogue since I was like 15.
@littlematthew123 that sounds abusive
littlematthew123 · 22-25, M
well she looks after me an I dont stay alone at home @MorbidCynic
@littlematthew123 Forcing you to go places against your will is kinda screwed tbh
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
Why can't you just pray at home? Not everyone likes to dress up and socialize.
littlematthew123 · 22-25, M
I think that ok as long as my stepmom stays away from me so I can play my games @assemblingaknob

@littlematthew123 A little game play is healthy for the brain's reflexes. :)
Is it really that bad?

I visited the temple twice or thrice in 10 years.
littlematthew123 · 22-25, M
it not that bad if I went 2 or 3 times in 10 years :) @HopelessGuy

I normally would go but given what is going on we don't. We pray from home. You don't need to go to church to pray.
Pfft when i was a kid my family went 3x a week

You don't. You're an adult, right?

Be a good boy and do as your told
From your POV, maybe not. But if you were to find a church that offers proper fellowship and brings you closer to God, then yes; every week is good.
