What do I do now?

I sold my old car to a friend of my dad's last year.

I DID fill out the title transfer form and mail it in.

I get a letter today saying to remove my vehicle before it gets towed.
This leads me to believe that the vehicle that I no longer have, that I transfered the title on, is STILL in my name.

Letter says it is parked in front of a property and needs to be moved or it will be towed. Which leads me to believe that I now have tickets in my name.

I no longer have the car.

What now?
It's after hours

Always something 馃槱

It sounds like the person to whom you sold the car didn't register it in his name and is still using your license plates.

You may have to contact whatever state office registers vehicles in your location, the DMV or whatever it's called.

@DunningKruger thank you.
I'm assuming I now have tickets in my name. Will I have to pay those?
Like won't it show up if I get pulled over?
DunningKruger61-69, M
@iamnikki It might, but parking tickets are often different from moving violations, so I can't say. Can you contact the buyer and make sure they registered the vehicle?

@DunningKruger upon further reading on the DMV website. Since I submitted a vehicle transfer notice, I will not be responsible for any tickets, parking violation, etc by the buyer
If you have proof of the sale of your car you will be ok

Did you take your plates off of it

You should have received some kind of confirmation letter from the state after you mailed in the title transfer. Do you still have the bill of sale?
iamnikki31-35, F
@DukeOfEarle I didn't get that. I'm looking for it now.

Is your dad still in contact with the friend?
Try to contact the DVLA and ask them to check their records and say you sold it

@Adamski24 I don't know what a DVLA is but I'm contacting the Department of Motor Vehicles tommorow.
Dad claims he doesn't have the contact number of the friend/old co-worker

@iamnikki it's the same thing but dvla is the UK
