Every time I get stressed, I want to meltdown/die...

I realise these are not viable answers, how do I deprogram these instincts?

Can anyone recommend a book perhaps?
It's all about vibration, though you can read any book you like or is recommended. If you can't change your situation, change your vibration. Focus on different things, or try to see the good in bad experiences (what have you learned from this moment, and then taking this lesson to move on with your life). Also best things to do, better than reading any book, is going for walks into nature, and spending some time with your pet. And quit drinking sodas and coffee, switch to drinking water and tea instead. Drinking a glass of water while you're stressed can also reduce stress. And the best tip of all: sport, excercise! Swimming, running, fitness, basketball, tennis, whatever sport you may like, it really helps. But if I was to recommend a book, to answer your question, I'd recomment "Live in the now" by Eckhart Tolle.

I know a good one actually
but most people tell me to go to hell
its the grave ,i'll get there soon enough
it actually helped me in more ways that I ever expected
if you need to know its name
Google most sold book ever ,,,there is a reason for that

@ConanTheLibrarian in your dreams ,I guess if all you need is a story about a man that attacks windmills ,well there you go
but the one I am sure you know is not about windmills (in fact I made sure which one came up just in case I was wrong )
can actually change your life ,
I was not a believer in it myself ,but I was tired of being destroyed over relationships ,addictions and the constant desire to kill myself .
I am finally at peace with myself ,I want for nothing ,my peace of mind has been restored ,and as I studied ,,physical and mental pain went away .
I was a broken man and nothing helped ,I finally said what have I got to loose ,,It was at first like I was almost afraid of it ..
But you can mock me and the book ,wont bother me at all
its not my fault for most ,the answer was right there all along
most homes have one ,or Mommma or Grandma does
I mocked it too ,and now live by it ,its crazy how when tragic events come on us ,,many do end up on the same road ,,,you know even Plant said
"theres still time to change the road your own "
but I told you ,what you do with the info is up to you
I don't try to drag anyone to the spring for water either
if your are thirsty enough ,you'll find it

@rckt148 I've witnessed supernatural things that still haunt me, I don't think religion is the answer for me.

@ConanTheLibrarian You're welcome. I like this book because you don't have to read it in chronological order; each chapter is a stand-alone topic. It really emphasizes learning to have compassion for yourself first, then extends outwards.

@SW-User That sounds like something I could use. <3
