Anybody have some good tips on surviving graveyard shift?

This is kicking my ass! 😕. I barely got any sleep today because the family was home.

I'm working 11-7 now also. Walking around and talking shit with people is usually how I stay awake, lol. Also, the foam earplugs work great at home. Plus, I use the tv in the bedroom to drown out any noise from the rest of the house.

I like working that shift. Just use earplugs to sleep.

Me too @SW-User
When I came home at 8.am I went to bed from 9.am until 1.pm, that way I got some sleep but also I could sleep that night cause I didn’t sleep too much in the day. If I did a double night I went to bed at 9.am and got up at 4.pm. I guess if you’re not doing a double graveyard shift it doesn’t really matter if you sleep after or not. On shift you could always spread the work out so you don’t feel tired. Some people cope with these shifts and some people just can’t.

There's a reason they call it "graveyard shift". Don't worry, it usually only shortens your life by around ten years. You have a good decade left! 😄

I couldn't do it. Tried for a year, never got used to it.
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
@StokedFox Thankfully I’m doing it that long!

@Jeephikelove yay! Good luck... Not easy for some
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
@StokedFox No it sure isn’t, during the week is a little better but starting on Sunday sucks.

You need to eat something during the shift to help you wake up. Wait till about the middle of the shift.
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
@Thevy29 Yes that does help, I’m having my “lunch” now.

A coffee, move around, eat frugal, more coffee at work. Light block curtains and white noise.

Tell them to be quiet

@SW-User They actually try really hard. Thankfully I barely work graveyard

I’m just really good at staying awake all night. So sorry no real tips. Other than using earplugs and and eye mask.
