When did trolling become a noble enterprise?

In my day, the most disgraceful thing you could be in a public forum was a troll. Trolls were wastes of space who contributed nothing positive to the information superhighway, as it was called in those days.
But these days..! I've seen guys talking about trolling like it's an almost neutral pastime, and others even bragging about being trolls, of all things!
Time and experiences change a lot of things/ the way we see things. It does not necessarily make it right but somehow it contributes to how we relate to certain things that we used to hate or ignore before

Trolling is noble if it's about a cause, or want to express something u deem important. The word "troll" is overused and misused.
@Wiseacre one of the things I was wondering is if some people's definition is different from mine. But I've seen it used in ways with which I would expect few ideologs to sympathize

It became a pastime when people realised how easy it was to make people angry on the internet. I don't pay much attention to trolling. It's usually recognisable and why get mad when you know that is their objective?
