Stupid politicians. My country relies on crude oil sales to finance 70% of its budget.

Not really wise, is it? Now the world is moving away from fossil fuels and they're all worried. I wonder how we ended up with these retards

You guys are fooling yourselves.
Major engineering overhaul required !
Nuclear is going to take over oil they're already planning five new reactors in England to be built before the end of the next decade.

@Picklebobble2 its all just politics and corruption. There was an issue of a government official selling an oil bloc worth $500 bn for just $1.1bn or something like that. Don't really understand the details. The 'Malabu oil deal' or something is what its called.. Its a really big one, I think the CEO of Shell Nigeria had to resign because of it. A lot of foreign investigators are on the case right now.

@jackson55 Business ! Coal producers are losing out worldwide and have been for a long time !
Christ ! Thatcher closed ALL our coal mines back in the 80'S !!!
I wonder how much the coal companies contribute to Mr.T and the Democrats too probably, just to keep their industry live ??

China takes almost all of the excess coal the US can produce. I agree with you, I think nuclear is the way to go but it's very slow moving in the US. Hydro is good too, but there hasn't been a major dam built in the US since 1969. So for the foreseeable future here it's coal and gas. Obama tried his best to kill the coal industry to promote wind and solar. And if there weren't the subsidies the green business wouldn't exist. It costs too much for the little return.

That's because oil companies put a lot of money into politics.
But politicians don't let the money trickle down to the places where it could really benefit the most folks !

But it is a fact that oil is becoming harder to find. It is a fact that America consumes WAY too much of it at a price far lower than anybody else pays for it. And having had what ?....three major oil crises since the early 70's ? Governments don't want to be held to ransom by the oil producers anymore ! Basically the rest of the world is sick of it !

So alternatives need to be found and be up and running quick !
greenies in oz are going to put a lot of ppl on the welfare system and send electricity prices thru the roof with unsustainable unreliable wind farms..
but hey. they can give themselfs a pat of the back and hold the moral high ground for being mother natures bestie..

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout lol well at least the world still needs our oil for like 30 more years. I work as an intern in an oil company and my bosses are always complaining about how all these environmental regulations make us lose money. At least Trump pulled out of the Paris agreement
coal is our biggest export and job supplier. with the added benefits of reliable cheap energy. climate targets is just another method of wealth redistribution..

trump was right to pull out .

It will be along time before oil is nolnger needed, not in your lifetime anyway. Solar and wind is tiny compared to oil coal and gas. Solar and wind will improve over time. Gasoline will be with us for a few more years.

@SW-User nope, does Canada heavily rely on it's crude oil too? Well even if it dies at least your country is working

[c=#7700B2]@rickfreeman15 A very large portion of our economy is dependent on oil; the huge drop in oil prices a while back had a huge impact.[/c]
