Just applied for my first job ever.

It is only McDonald's but I still really hope I get hired.

My son-in-law is a lazy bum....sits on his butt.... Is unemployed and is 28.

Tell me that's sad.... Your 16-17 and looking for a job...awesome!
You got so much potential.... Hoping an amazing future for you.

@shakenama and @cumeater: I actually worked when I was 16, and I worked hard, got compliments from what I did, and also worked very long hours which I wasn't suppose to do. Someone mentioned to me about child labor laws.

But I had difficulty getting a job as an adult, and after a while I sort of gave up. Though eventually I still got a job just cause someone I knew casually asked me if I could work with him. Not saying this is the case with your son in law, just saying things aren't so black and white.

I want to point out something that also goes beyond the black and white. Be careful of the easy formula, job = good, no job = bad. Make sure you are respected at your job. I actually once read in a psychology book that they did a study in which people who didn't work as teenagers tended to be more succesful as adults than those who had a job, and this goes against the convention, as we think work teaches us responsibility and hard work and I'm not sure why that is. But If you feel being pushed around either you demand to be respected and be so or quit.

One more thing, there has been, in the past, some strange prank phone calls in fast foods of someone claiming to be an authority on the phone and causing trouble major trouble. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strip_search_phone_call_scam

Do not be a drone. If someone tells you to do something strange or creepy, either by phone or of a person there of high rank you needn't follow them.

Personally I think it's good you're trying to get a job, but always remember to respect yourself and respect others, take no abuse from coworkers, from customers, from anyone.

best of luck to you my first job was at a McDonald's though do not be disappointed as they can't call everyone and don't restrict yourself to one company try other places like Wendy's , Pizza joints, coffee and donut places etc. Did you apply to do anything specific
@fluteacorn: I am sorry after checking your groups I can see why your mom would worry about you walking alone hope you get the job

It's a fun easy job but the hours sucked
fluteacorn · 22-25, F
@Dumbbutfunctional: With being in high school, I'll have less hours than an adult.
