for those who drink bottle water ...

The following are some quotes from a guardian newspaper article published in the last few days ... Be very scared ..
A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute and the number will jump another 20% by 2021, creating an environmental crisis some campaigners predict will be as serious as climate change
More than 480bn plastic drinking bottles were sold in 2016 across the world, up from about 300bn a decade ago.
Fewer than half of the bottles bought in 2016 were collected for recycling and just 7% of those collected were turned into new bottles. Instead most plastic bottles produced end up in landfill or in the ocean.
Between 5m and 13m tonnes of plastic leaks into the world’s oceans each year to be ingested by sea birds, fish and other organisms, and by 2050 the ocean will contain more plastic by weight than fish, according to research by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

Carrying a refillable stainless steel bottle solves helps solve the problem.
But to really solve it, we need to ban plastic for disposable uses
or redesign the chemicals to be completely biodegradable.

Spell Evian.. backwards

Its amazing how people can willfully ignore things that have unambiguous numbers backing them and shrill at anyone who dares to disagree with them. The amount of plastic in the oceans can be sampled and verified. Turns out its a lot more than ever used to be there, which was none. That crap can't be good for any living up or down the food chain to ingest.

@ineedadrink it's not good for anything... Now emerges another danger... Microfibers from synthetic fibres .. we're stuffed!
ineedadrink · 51-55, M
@ozgirl512 You mean the carbon nanotube things? Super strong but tiny so will end up everywhere, probably even in our lungs?
Amylynne · 26-30, F
the more i learn the more often i am sure we are screwed..
i try to be optimistic , i SEE good things, and am surpised it has not all collapsed.
but collapse is a slow process, been reading a book with that title
Collapse, by Jarred Diamond
a history of a few cultures that have collapsed, and the signals of that collapse

time to enclave up!
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@Amylynne I read that .. his question on what were the people thinking when they cut down the last tree on Easter island still haunts me
VodkaBec · 31-35, F
These are frightening stats & sadly I believe there's quite a bit of truth in them as I've heard similar. For what it's worth, I think bottled water is over rated, I use a refillable bottle & drink tap water.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@VodkaBec: I'm lucky in that our local tap water is prime quality... And I think most people's are ... There are instances where bottled water may be necessary, but for the rest of us?
I think it's a great win for marketing... Let's face it, they have pursuaded us to buy something we can get for free and in the process help screw up the world more.
VodkaBec · 31-35, F
@ozgirl512: Yes we're really fortunate here as well when it comes to the quality of our tap water. It's always intrigued me how people didn't die of dehydration prior to the introduction of bottled water. As for my place, even the recycle containers get a wash just to take the excuse away as to why they can't recycle them. 🙂

The guardian? Laughing my balls off.

@ozgirl512: We both know their agenda. I'm sure they do have some factual stories, but you have to consider the source.

@SW-User What utter crap. I pity your 'intellect'.
SW-User
@SW-User I don't care.
katielass · F
This is particularly tragic considering I've read articles that state bottled water is no better than tap.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@katielass: yep... In most cases it's not any better... It's a triumph of marketing
katielass · F
@ozgirl512: Well, it's a convenience and we all like convenience but I reuse my plastic bottles. I put them in the top rack of the dishwasher and reuse them. It doesn't take any real effort and I feel I'm doing my part to keep this pollution down. Perhaps if we started charging a really high bottle deposit.....

Each day d fukashima reactor pumps 300 tons a day of radioactive water into d ocean let's get our priorities straight
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@Goralski: I've got the government to indict the owners ... It's a poor start but a start
Goralski · 51-55, M
@ozgirl512: keep up d Good work
roccoman · 56-60, M
@Goralski YOU solved?
patkaren1717 · 36-40, M
You can twist numbers any way you want them.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@patkaren1717: that's true... But that doesn't mean it's not real a and not happening

@Nobody37: I'm not to sure you're correct in that ...
Lyrics
Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul to waste
And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general's rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
(Woo woo, woo woo)
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For…

@SW-User theirs wrong nothing with my correct Auto!

I use a water purifier and I haven't big stainless steel thermos that keeps water cold all day. I can't understand why so many people still choose to buy bottled water when there's such an easy solution.

Thank you for taking the time to post this! ✌
wildflower12 · 31-35, F
Thanks for the information. Wonder how we can buy water with different kinds of containers
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@wildflower12: reusable containers?
coolnudist · 70-79, M
That is bad, I think we need to figure a way to collect them to recycle into some thing useful.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@coolnudist I don't think it works... The answer is easy and actually saves you money... Tap water

Good thing I reuse my gallons and jugs then; so I'll be prepared for the coming bottlepocolypse.

@FitAndTrimYetThick: our parents and those before seemed to have survived quite well without the throwaway mentality ...
I'm not saying we cannot, ppl will not let it. Calm your face, did I attack you or something?
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
You can drink the tap water.

Happy bladder, liver and kidney cancer.

Truth.
firefall · 61-69, M
Ah there's nothing like a little hysteria ginned up by fake statistics
BatRinseRepeat · 31-35, F
True and sad.

On the map it looks like this :

You can't win for losing. There has been a recent problem with the water in some areas because the water company opted to use a different, less expensive source and they have algae problems. People describe tap water with an awful odor and taste, because of residual algae. The company's solution ? "Put some lemon in it, it's not bad for you." Poison the earth, or myself ? Those are the options.
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
@bijouxbroussard: Nestle comes to mind
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@bijouxbroussard: I hear what you are saying and local water authorit should be hell accountable to do the job they are supposed to do
Goralski · 51-55, M
