Just saw on the news where Montgomery county in Ohio is the overdose capital of the world.

I would have thought for sure it would have been California.

I'm in WV...Yes, the drug epidemic is absolutely out of hand in this region. Heroin, meth, prescription drugs...so bad that there are lawsuits against drug companies for sending large quantities of prescription pills to this region. It doesn't surprise me at all that the overdose capital is in this region.

@hlpflwthat: I agree with that. I do think however, that oxycodone should be reserved for someone that addiction is not going to be a factor. What I mean is someone who is elderly and experiencing pain..someone who is terminally ill, that type of thing. The prescriptions given, and amounts of these medications can be curbed no doubt, what can the controlled, is how an individual takes the medication. If an individual takes a medication more frequently or by a different route than is prescribed, they should be responsible for that action.

And clear labeling/straight talk wouldn't hurt. Oxy should be known as synthetic heroin in a pill, because that is exactly what it is.

@hlpflwthat: yes, I agree completely.

Far worse in coal country from what I read. Painkillers.

@hlpflwthat: yeah, the situation seems to have really changed in recent years. People who would otherwise have never encountered heroin. Thanks, drug companies! Now Frankenstein's monster is lurching in the other direction and people in pain can't get meds.

There are a combination of factors mostly the intersection of Interstate highways in and near Montgomery County that leads to the increased traffic. In West Virginia synthetic drugs were touted by the drug company's as non addictive so now those that are hooked are looking for street alternatives. There are not enough clinics or detox centers to help those addicted.
