@KittyKay: yeah, I can mostly empathize. esp. given that he seemed to bail without telling ... possibly anyone? but I try to assume good things in the absence of evidence of not so good things.
I could look for a podcast about the power of expectations if you'd like a distraction. and it's also the reason I try to expect better.

@DeadCowboy: He did tell me, actually, bc he promised be always would. But, it was a quick message and then gone. I appreciated what I got. I just thought maybe someone else had been in touch and could say if he was ok. Im ok with it, honestly. Just can't help wondering every now and then.
