Because the Bible was written with God being masculine. It always has been. In truth, God is a spirit so He is neither male nor female. The only physical gender related to God is through Jesus Christ.

I'm not sure women were allowed to write when they created their fables and religion. Seems one of the perks would be making god a man. You can exert more power that way.

the rule -used- to be (or at least as I was taught in school): if unknown, assume male for gender.
