Just heard that Kenya is bringing in a complete ban on plastic bags

Well If they can do it ! Fed up with people bitching and moaning about having to pay 4p for a bag. It's not rocket science bring a bag from home, jeez people managed in the past without plastic bags

People are right to bitch and moan about the government-imposed levy. The plastic bag "Daily Mail" issue is largely a furphy, and an example of 'virtue signalling' rather than good policy. The only - and I mean ONLY - serious study of the economic and environmental effect of plastic bags was by the Australian Government's authoritative PRODUCTIVITY COMMISSION.

They debunked almost every 'fact' about the so-called plastic bag plague, from the extremely rare occurrence in reality (rather than the hyperbolic press releases of WWF and Greenpeace) of plastic bags and wildlife coming into conflict. A very high percentage of plastic bags are recycled in the hygienic management of domestic rubbish; and finally, their volume in the total amount of rubbish to be put into landfill or incinerated was minuscule to the point of unmeasurable. Dislike these findings as you may, they are -worldwide - the only professional, economic and environmental study that has ever been done on this subject outside of one-sided NGO press releases.

And if you know anything about the Kenyan economy and their major environmental and financial troubles, the idea they waste legislative time on this virtue signalling is risible.

Having worked at a recycling plant I can tell you that the vast majority of plastic bags do not get recycled, I don't really care what that scum newspaper The Daily mail has campaigned for. I worked on both black rubbish and recycling, the once or twice use plastic bags usually get used for putting shit in or other such things. When people put the plastic bag in the recycling it's usually very dirty, alot of the time that means the entire bag has to go to landfill. If you are indeed the age you claim to be I'm surprised at your view. Everybody managed before plastic bags, they took bags with them. Plenty of other options, biodegradable bags both plastic and brown paper for those that forget.
