Do people use this place to meet other people?

Anywhere can be somewhere to meet someone. You go to the bank, to deposit a check. You aren't there to meet someone, but, YIKES, just one glance tells you that you are actually here to meet this person.

Sometimes

Some do I am sure, some are just here to kill time, and some are here to just not feel lonely. At least that's my hunch.

But I like meeting new people and sharing stories ... isn't that the idea?

No. Although u get to chat to some nice people
