Why do people insist on pestering those who don't have children like there's something wrong with us?

I have no problem with them being estatic being a parent, but they need to stop and think not everyone feels that way

Also they seem to get offended when I compare my dogs to their children. "It's NOT the same thing!"

..."ya sure?...ya sure bruh?"
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
Nah the dogs are less annoying!
SW-User
They poop, they cry, they make a mess...pretty much young children. Except yes a dog isn't as annoying.

Because some people think your life is not complete unless you have a spouse and kids.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
If that's what they feel then fair enough. But they shouldn't assume the same of other people
Most people tend to think their way of life is the only way of life. So if they want children, that must mean everyone wants children. Duh!
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
It's kind of rude to assume. I think you're right on that

20,000 year old instincts leave a feeling in people that human population is important. And women are the key to population growth. E.g. If you have 1 very happy man and 100 women, that's 100 babies. If you have 1 women and 100 men, that's 1 baby.

The extra social value that females have is due to having fewer--thus more valuable--reproductive resources.

So. If you refuse to have children, you're viewed as inhibiting human survival. It's more of a big deal for women, as previously mentioned, as sperm is infinite, thus effectively worthless, like any effectively infinite resource.

This is also why slutshaming exists pretty much primarily for women and not with men. People have an instinctual revulsion towards women who are careless with their eggs. Likewise, women who do not use their eggs are pressured to use them, but not viewed as horribly as sluts, because they aren't actively wasting eggs. E.g. slut has sex with subpar man, gets preggers with subpar baby, loses 9 months of reproduction time.

Males have no social value, unless they create it through occupation or accomplishment, incidentally

Don't you think there are enough unwanted children in the world?! I ain't failing nobody 😂
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
@Adelh91: I do think that. Apparently you dont get it.

Most I've come across do so in an attempt to feel superior for having them.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
It does seem that way. That's not everyone's ambition though
SW-User
Exactly! It's merely one goal out of many but, unfortunately, people tend to see their way as the only valid way to be.

Validation and happiness comes in many forms, after all.
elVato · 46-50, M
because we want you to come down to our level of misery.
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
@Adelh91: they would love you unconditionally don't you think?
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
@juiceyangel333: they wouldn't love me 😂
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
@Adelh91: unless you treat them bad but kids are like dogs they show lots of affection
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
When I met my mother in law for the first time, she said "You have nice eyes, the baby will have nice eyes"

Wow. People are baby crazy.
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@juiceyangel333: I think this is one of the reasons people should talk less about other people having babies. We had a miscarriage late last year. It hurt a lot. But it's impossible to avoid talking about babies.
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@Adelh91: There's a movie I saw a few years ago where parents ask their daughter and her partner if they're going to have kids, and she responds "Oh yes, thank you for reminding me, we'll go and make a start on that now" then takes her partner by the hand and leads him upstairs.

The rest of the scene is the parents looking confused and upset. It tickled me :)
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
@ChasingBrainBros: lol
1. Time is ticking for you, especially as a woman.
2. It is considered normal for 100,000+ years for women to have children, if she's capable.
3. You will likely receive some kind of pension benefits from your government upon retirement. If you don't have kids you are planning a larger burden on the children of others.
I have two legs.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
Good for you. Bye
Adios
nightwing316 · 36-40, M
I don't know about others. I would rather talk with parents as they have a level of maturity.
nightwing316 · 36-40, M
@Adelh91: there is nothing wrong. You have kids when you are ready. Its better to good parents than just having kids.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
@nightwing316: when I'm ready, there we go. Assuming I will have to give in and have some one day. I don't know if I ever want them
nightwing316 · 36-40, M
@Adelh91: and that is perfectly fine. If you don't want them you can't potentially explore the full scope of parenthood even if you have one. A lot of times people have unwated kids and are bad parents in a lot of cases. If you ever want them, I ma sure you will find a way :)

It's rude to comment on someone's having or not having children. Perhaps a snarky response will shut them up.
katielass · F
@Adelh91: Exactly, sweetie. You never know what someone's circumstances are and to comment is just inexcusable. Maybe something like, "I'm waiting until I can afford them. I realize that might seem out of date, but I think it's the smart thing to do." Watch their jaws drop. Trust me, they will shut up. I didn't have kids and I've been through the same thing. Only people were even ruder, they'd ask is it him or you dear. Well, those who didn't know he had 2 kids from a previous marriage.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
@Shattered: wow that's so rude! It's really none of their business, and I would never even consider children until I was stable and could support them and give them the life they deserve.
Plus I haven't found a man worthy of being a father to my children yet, I will not take second best when it comes to something this serious
katielass · F
@Adelh91: Yes, but try to remember, most people probably don't mean to be rude, they don't know any better. MY sister and brother who had children had only one each and my sister suffered the same thing. When are you going to have another. A shorter retort could be, excuse me, I'm not going to rush to make such an important decision. And if you look at them like WTF, it's more effective.
Bean17 · 46-50, F
Maybe they're jealous.😜 But really, people are always trying to impose their own beliefs on others. I think the key is to know your own self, stay true to your own self, and put your earmuffs on to when anyone says otherwise.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
It's like I'm a lesser person because I don't have a child. Right now I don't want any, and the world is too full of unwanted children as harsh as it sounds
Bean17 · 46-50, F
@Adelh91: But you know that's not true right? That you're a lesser person because of that choice? End of story. BAM!😜
MrFoxx · 31-35, M
The world needs less children. Americans can't feed 5 out of 10 of them today.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
I imagine it's the same here in the UK
Starvation has more to do with economics thn about food production. Also there is no way half the children in America are starving. That's ridiculous.
MrFoxx · 31-35, M
Yes they are. You just have to look for yourself and see. Most of us don't pay attention to things until they affect us.
But why don't you have any ,you ok 🤔
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
😂😂 your sperm couldn't reach
@juiceyangel333: well it hit you in the face a few times 😋
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
@Nunlover: and it has made my skin so healthy so thank you
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
Just have a kid or 3 already. Just when you start to miss the pestering, They'll find something else to pester you about.
AliceMortem · 31-35, F
Probably why I'm such a bad parent? 😂
UserNameSW · 46-50, M
@Adelh91: I knew you'd understand.
Now go do the right thing and get knocked-up already
