How do you define intelligence?

Unlearn · 41-45, M
There are different types of intelligence...mental, emotional and also physical. Emotional and physical intelligence is overlooked by many. Also, in our society a good memory is often confused for mental intelligence. The best measurement of intelligence is...how a person deals with a situation of which he or she has no mental, emotional and physical memory of.

People who make wise decisions that are beneficial, and good, that has everyones best interest at heart...

But isn't that wisdom? Intelligence is something different, I think.

To me intelligence is a measure of how fast they can process information. Almost anyone can memorize a bunch of facts given enough time. However, it takes a truly intelligent person to take information in, process it, and then use it to solve a problem and garner a deeper understanding of said information. It's incredibly rare to find.

Sounds like a good definition.

Problem solving and adaptability. It's all well and good being academicly intelligent but it isn't usually applicable in the real world.
SW-User
I agree. 🙂

@Serendipity: I probably should have said before there are so many different intelligent people. It really varies a lot. I knew a kid in school that seemed really stupid. It seemed like he could'nt comprehend anything anyone said to him.But his school work was perfecrt he comprehended everything perfectly.

@1961dave: I agree. I think there are different types of intelligence too.

IF you can at least understand the word, intelligent, then you are.
SW-User
Perhaps your understanding is incorrect? Perhaps you know what intelligence is but you're not very effective at displaying it?
Th1nkF1rst · 70-79, M

SW-User
@Th1nkF1rst: I wasn't speaking about you, you twit. I was speaking about your definition applied to people generally. 😕
