Why does Italian food always upset my stomach?

Anytime there's red sauce and mozzarella cheese involved I always get nailed with a stomach ache
Viper · M
My first thought was lactose intolerance? People become more lactose intolerance as they age and it's happening more and more.

Also I see as others have noted, the red sauces could be heavy acid of the tomatoes ... which I moved to a new area and had a problem with as my tab water had more acid than my body liked with my diet. But things that can add to the acid include tomatoes, soda and spicy, all which could in Italian foods.

Same. I think it’s the red sauce doing it

I have to eat pizza with whites sauce or garlic sauce.. red sauce gives me heartburn

@QueenandCrown I often get heartburn with pizza but didn't know it was the sauce.

I'd try it without cheese to isolate one of the potential allergens. If it's the cheese, and you can eat the sauce, that's the likely problem. I'm allergic to dairy, so even a trace amount of Parmesan cheese in a tomato sauce will cause problems, so if you're trying it without cheese, be sure it's not just mozzarella that is used.
