When did you all learn to cook by yourself?

I have been in such a condition that I don't know how to cook most of the things but maybe it's just an excuse.
I could make some dishes, basic and simple stuff. At 29 or so I bought the Time Life series of cookbooks and worked my way through them. You could do that with any good cookbook or website with instructions. Eventually you get confident enough to start adding your own touches.

@Mamapolo2016 I like the Betty Crocker cookbook because it has a lot of really basic recipes to learn to cook for a beginner. I had other cookbooks but finding one for something simple like a basic apple or cherry pie was not in it, most of the cookbooks had fancier recipes and many times with ingredients I didn’t have on hand, and I lived in a rural area and couldn’t just run to a grocery store for one or two items.
@cherokeepatti Yes. I did an awful lot of substitutions with Time Life. Some of the intredients weren't available within two hundred miles!

Not sure. My mother's cooking was never satisfactory, that prompted me to learn to cook. Nowadays, I am entrusted with the Mac and cheese at Thanksgiving 😋

Not until I met my wife.

Until that point, the microwave was my friend

I have literally used my microwave 4 times since New Years

I lived alone in 2017 as I worked in a different state. That was when I learned to cook.

@Beatbox34 I guess the mess ruined me.

@TheOrionbeltseeker It's never too late to learn to cook. Truth be told, it's fun. I personally love cooking something than buying the junk made by a restaurant.

@Beatbox34 Thank you for the encouragement. It was much needed.

There are step by step instructions online starting with enter the kitchen and turn the lights on. Cooking has never been easier

In my teens. Between cooking with my Mom and Home Economics it became easy. Love trying new recipes!

As a child. Though I was raised around good cooks, it just felt like the thing to do.
