What is the strangest thing you have seen at work?

Mamapolo2016 · F Best Comment
Two things:

First, at a supermarket opening, the bakery manager (fond of his product) slipped on the ice and slid under a sports car and the meat department guys had to lift it off of him.

Second, when they announced promotions over the intercom at the Dept. of Welfare, a colleague reacted to one name by jumping up on his chair, shaking his fist at the speaker on the wall and shouting, "You have to be sh***ing me!"

Oh, and third, when two men were in my boss's office, one of them playfully tugged at the other's hair and it came off in his hand. He screamed and threw the toupee against the wall.

When I worked in an Arab country, my head of department was given a gift by one of the kid's fathers. As she opened it in full view of the staff-room, she whooshed back the tissue and pulled out a black, lace negligée. Her face was a picture 😯😂

@Stereoguy Sorry?

We just laughed and pulled her leg as to what she was up to 🤭

I used to manage the back room of a video store so my weirdest work stories are all highly inappropriate 😬

At my current office job it was a coworker’s vape exploding and burning off half of his pants leg.

@Stereoguy he was fine. Had to force him to go to urgent care to get checked out but thankfully his pants bore the brunt of the damage.

I was asked to process a patient who had stayed overnight in the ER so she could go home. The paperwork said that she had responded well to the two hourly Neural Obs that is mandatory for a suspect head injury. Strange how the report said that both eyes responded well when I could clearly see one was missing.

In the aged care ward there was a patient who would get really agitated right before someone died in the community. Sometimes she could even describe that person.

A Co-worker didn't show up for handover so we went looking for her and found her dead on the couch with her tea still hot in front of her.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Thevy29 Wow did they find out how or why she passed on her couch? How old was she?😟
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@Coralmist Beverly was in her 50's, she and I had been in the same TAFE course learning nursing. The Doctor had revealed that she had organ failure of her kidneys, liver and Heart. The poor thing had been palliative for that last few months of her life but had kids to care for and couldn't stop working. 😢

@Thevy29 So incredibly sad😟 😢

Not much surprises me at work anymore.

@Stereoguy Kids are weird. They do random stuff all the time. I'll go with the time the kid brought their mum's favourite candle into school for shownand tell

@Stereoguy We didn't mention it. Just let the kid take it home 🤣

I work at an urgent care facility, and one time a guy who was waiting for a doctor's appointment just fell on the floor and started having a seizure, no joke. Since we are not an actual hospital, we had to call for the paramedics.

This exact thing took place at a pharmacy I once managed. Since we were not equipped to handle seizures, we had to call the ambulance who carried her out in a gurney.
Rose0415 · 31-35, F
@Stereoguy Yeah, we did our best to handle the situation until the EMTs arrived.

When I worked in retail it was pretty strange to see anyone actually working.

When I was working at a pizza shop in the mall a female went into the restroom and smeared crap all over the wall. I was acting manager that night.
rjc36 · 56-60, M
@Stereoguy I worked at an arcade for a while helping a friend that was next to the pizza place. So I have seen a few things. This was all when I was in college mostly just on the weekends.

@Stereoguy I bet you have stories from that.

Homeless lady dug a hole into the recycling in a compactor bin.

Unknowingly I turned on the compactor and she immediately started to yell.

Ok coarse as soon as I heard I immediately hit the emergency cut off. Yet the whole incident caused new policies regarding the compactor.

My suggestion actually was implemented. Do a half compactor cycle and shut it off before leaving the sight.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Stereoguy oh yes. It takes a full minute to get the compacting block to reach the recycles.

Yet if she would have been a heavy sleeper I never would have known. 😔

@Stereoguy oh, yes! The whole area was known for homeless. Surprised it never happened sooner though.

@BridgeOvertroubledWaters It was almost 7 years ago I have left that workplace and never went back.

@Stereoguy I don't know why. Some of them had families and lives and if nothing, San Jose downtown had a lot to offer during evenings. Nerds I'd say who loved their overtime more than anything. It's the Bay Area culture. People like Jobs have created it and some wannabes follow it for some extra cash that's not even worth it.

@Stereoguy lol you're not wrong.😂 That's why I carry a gun 🔫 loaded with silver bullets, a string of garlic 🧄around my neck and a thick steak. Yeah...i mean steak 🥩, I work up an appetite avoiding all the werewolves and vampires. 😂

@Stereoguy 😱
My part time receptionist painting her toenails.
@Stereoguy She came up with some very colorful words to call me as she left. It amazed me that she didn’t realize how inappropriate it was. Last time I ever used a temp service.

@Pinkstarburst This is how some folks are now. Once worked with this guy who, when the IT lab work was handed out, would roll all the way to the opposite side of the room in his chair to avoid work altogether and just sit there. It was his princely smugness as if he was above the work that made us hate him. Needless to say, he didn't last long.

@Stereoguy Well it messed up our machines at the warehouse and put us way behind schedule, besides being freaky as heck.

A guy wearing a cape, and a dozey sewer rat overly interested in my work boots.
I had a workmate that used to fart out loud.
