A user on here says America would fold without Californias economy. What are your thoughts? Does Californias economy prop up the rest of the country?
curiosi · 61-69, F Best Comment
California cost the feds plenty. They keep screwing thing up, allowing anyone in etc. We would probably be better off without them.
BlueVeins · 22-25
@curiosi California is actually a donor state.
SW-User
@BlueVeins 10th in the list I looked at but on the cusp at about $12 only per capita.

Half of the exodus of Californians are moving to Texas to enhance the oil, tech, cattle and farming industries we share in common while paying no state taxes, open up a business in a week that takes CA months if not years and can literally see their net income increase 40% overnight. What's not to leave? They've been shooting themselves in both feet for years - let them, we'll manage. Glad I left, what a strange trip that was.

@jackson55 That's the downside. They'll wake from their tax and spend addiction stupor soon enough. You can't tax your way out of your problems.

Will the last person to leave CA please turn out the light?

I don't think so. Too many important transportation hubs and facilities. First off, you have LAX and SFO airports. And then you have the BNSF and Union Pacific railroads who have major facilities in the state...plus it is a port of entry for goods from the other side of the world.
Carazaa · F
@SubstantialKick Or in the ocean.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@Carazaa I would hope not. California is a beautiful state.
@SubstantialKick <3 thanks dan i hate posts like this
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
Gold, produce, fruit and especially citrus fruit, motion pictures, electronic technology, wine and cannabis. And a lot of hedonism, pretty people, and crazy ideas. How could they get along without us?
Wait so you wana give my home away or not? I didnt see your side
MrAboo · 36-40, M
Californians forgets Texas in this scenario.
TexChik · F
California is a shit hole . People are leaving there like crazy
acpguy · C
@Briggett and lulaluboo We need to put a wall around Cali so the liberals / socialists and other nut cases do not escape to other states just to start their bullshit way of governing anew.
Briggett · T
@TexChik Yes Hollywood would if Holly could
Carazaa · F
@lulaluboo And then they come back 😊

Give to Mexico or to China?
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@Heartlander China probably already owns it.
acpguy · C
@Virgo79 I just had a thought............it would be best to give it to China as it would cost China so much to keep it they would go broke then they would have to borrow money from us.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@Carazaa
China is outlawing Christian churches
It's the way communism works. The central committee of the communist party decides everything about you: they pick the churches and god that you are allowed to follow. If they do allow a church to function they pick the ministers. They decide how many children that you may have, or not have. Anything they don't have control over is seen as a possible threat to their authority.

Extending China "most favored nation" status was like hiring Al Capone as a bank's security guard.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
If California was to instantly vanish from the United States, the US House of Representatives would instantly change to Republican control and the US Senate would change to a 53-45 Republican majority.

Take away the 55 California electoral votes in 2016 and Trump would have defeated Clinton by a landslide.

Democrats in the other 49 states rely on California to keep them in power.

@pagandad I would think the "tyranny of the majority" thing would force a breakup with parts going their way.

A interesting thought is that the Democrat push to higher and higher taxes would make super rich Californians inclined to move things that way.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
California has the highest GDP of all the states, it makes up 14.6% of the national GSP. It looks like the wheels are falling off though, the homeless explosion. Businesses leaving the state. They will implode from their own weight in a few more years. There won't be anyone left to tax.
Briggett · T
@Roadsterrider nice work
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@Briggett Thanks.
BlueVeins · 22-25
I mean, California is a donor state so it wouldn't be great for the rest of the Union lol. Also just tactically stupid since Cali is a huge chunk of the US's west coast? And besides, economic de-integration makes everyone poorer.

@JAYS21 California was Mexican before. Some Mexicans literally lost their Mexican citisenship when they lost part of california to the USA. They are "Chicanos" now. So yes but it doesn't look much like Mexico.
Carazaa · F
@JAYS21 "The history of California can be, and has traditionally been, divided into: the Native American period (about 10,000 years ago until 1542), the European exploration period (1542–1769), the Spanish colonial period (1769–1821), the Mexican period (1821–1848), and United States statehood (September 9, 1850–present)."

I personally think they are wrong with the 10,000 years ago part though.
The county of los Angeles alone has a bigger population than the entire state of wyoming.
@SinlessOnslaught You'd probably like that too much!!!
travelguy01 · 41-45, M
@HootyTheNightOwl Wut, don’t you want all the hunky doodz to start PM’ing you?
@travelguy01 Only one... and he should just about be getting up soon... 🦉
They’re broke.. I’d drop it like a hot potato
So rich they are in Cali.. they literally got to burn it to the ground to hide the corruption

Losing California would be an enormous hit to the US economy. If it was it's own country it would be the 5th largest economy in the world. Anyone who wants to give up any of our states is quite simply a moron.

This whole "your part of the country sucks" bullshit is really out of control among the weak-minded.
Blodyn · 22-25, F
@luckranger71 I hope the USA doesn't break apart. I have seen how fragile the EU is. I grew up European yet in a few weeks I shall be just an islander near Europe.

Worthless piece of socialist crap state costs us taxpayers far more than what we get. I would be happy without it and if kept the wall going to include it the we woudl have a big prison that we could make it pay for itself or die.
jackson55 · M
Hmmm, I wonder why the mass migrations out of California in the last few years? Could it be because of the highest taxes, highest fuel prices, highest housing costs? And the state is still broke.
Carazaa · F
@jackson55 Many think its too expensive you are so right. The business taxes are a lot.
jackson55 · M
@Carazaa And now there’s a ballot initiative to get rid of prop 13 which will raise property taxes on home’s and business. And more will leave.
Carazaa · F
@jackson55 Ok good to know, less people.

@littlepuppywantanewlife hahah all fair points ;)
@littlepuppywantanewlife One thing I did notice compared to my own state. CA girls are hot and take meticulous care of themselves.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
i'd say no countries or states or provinces economy can really support itself anymore thanks to covid 19
Briggett · T
@FurryFace Texas and California rulers America
Carazaa · F
@FurryFace true furryface!
Who is going to take California? I don't know enough about American politics or economy to comment.
Carazaa · F
@PoetryNEmotion California doesn't need the USA they are a country of themselves with all the resources, but they can't take it for granted.
@Carazaa Hmmmm...They sound like Quebec here. Only Quebec wouldn't survive without the rest of Canada.
Carazaa · F
@PoetryNEmotion Oh I see!
Carazaa · F
California is richer than most countries, but if they don't love Jesus they will be judged harshly by God and not be blessed.
Carazaa · F
@CopperCicada True, but the Roman Catholic Church is apostate.

@Carazaa Roman Catholic countries are plagued with corruption, not the love of Jesus!

California economy is bigger than France so really
Briggett · T
@Carazaa it a big state
Carazaa · F
@Briggett True! Still a lot of wilderness.

@Briggett You don’t have to believe me, do the work. Do be like most people do the work

Carazaa · F
@MasterLee An Aussie?
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Carazaa no. Are you that unobservant
gregloa · 61-69, M
Get rid of the lunatic Democrats running the place and get some God fearing Republicans in there and then California might be ok. As it is would be cheaper to give it to Mexico.
if california gets to leave orgeon and washigon get to stay with them...

@RedYellowBlue yayyyy...💃
I don't know.
I'd have to research and compare the US national with the Californian.
Might give it a go when I have a bit more time to spare.
I’m sorry but why do people hate California?
Blodyn · 22-25, F
@Stereoguy I happen to think that California is a cool place except it's hot! Blodyn, shut up! You be careful what you say!

@Stereoguy But less than the price of petrol here!
Iwillwait · M
It doesn't prop it up, but if California were to collapse so would the whole country because of the economic strain.
Carazaa · F
@Iwillwait Not if we are Godly and pray. God says "If MY people who are called by my name shall humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways THEN I will hear in from heaven and answer their prayers and heal their land."
Iwillwait · M
@Carazaa I pray every single day for our Country's forgiveness. I believe in order for America's heart to be turned towards GOD, it may result in our Country falling to it's knees. When and how this will happen? Unfortunately, I have no idea, but I suspect due to our nature, we as a Country most likely will not do this willingly before having a loss so great only GOD and the Lord Almighty can help us.
Carazaa · F
@Iwillwait I agree but I think Jesus will come sooner than that.
I'm just stopping by to point out that your title question vs poll might be slightly confusing (my answer assumes the poll is on does california prop up the rest of the US). I think that california is sizable for the us economy, but its cost is pretty huge as well.
This comment is hidden. Show Comment
@Stereoguy I agree fully. I'm just saying the poll as applied to which question can be confusing
SW-User
It could exist nicely on its own.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SW-User if it could live within it's means
HannahSky · F
It has the biggest economy in the US.
Blodyn · 22-25, F
I don't live in the USA. I cannot say. But it surprised me to even think of one less star on the flag, even though California alone would be much bigger than my little country.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Blodyn we would keep northern California so no star change.
Blodyn · 22-25, F
@MasterLee I had no idea California was thinking of leaving, yet the UK is leaving the EU and many in my country would like to leave the UK. Personally I like to think of the UK as a loose union of separate countries. The Senedd has shown that during the pandemic. If there were a referendum I would vote to stay in the UK as it is now. But not as it was when my teachers in school were jailed for pulling down English road signs. Sometimes direct action is needed when polite letters make no difference.
SW-User
@MasterLee Jefferson 😂🤣
msros · F
Dont even think of it. You would lose Hollywood, lol.
Carazaa · F
@Stereoguy All over the world actually.

@Elessar In school my Geography teacher said California is the most populous state in the USA. It's the first time I heard the word populous and it stuck! I did have a crush on him which he will never know!
SW-User
California should be 10 states so its people get fair representation in the senate and electoral college.
Briggett · T
@SW-User how about making North and South Dakota count as one state?
Briggett · T
Nice post US history for 1000
Blodyn · 22-25, F
@Briggett I am writing an essay and looking at paving tiles made in the 1200's and still there today. Your decisions today are what will paint the world tomorrow. I shall not enter the debate. I live on an offshore island adrift in the Atlantic. But people of America. Your individual voice is important. Vote!
Ladyred · 46-50, F
It's one for all in the end..
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
In the short term, it would hurt a lot. California is both a trade and technology hub in the US. Without it, it would take years to decades to shift those hubs to other locations. Seattle would likely become the new tech hub, and possibly the new Asia Pacific trade hub. Long term it would be worked around, but short term would represent a massive weakening.

@Blodyn It's not for me to preach politics either.. but we are all allowed an opinion.. we are all also allowed to express what we see.. that's really all I ever do as in fact you and I are on the same continent so we while we will all, to some extent, have to live with whatever happens -it's less of a problem for us and we can afford to sit back a little and watch/observe.
I would add though... that in fact one of the real concerns is that the election may not be fair... and there are real questions regarding the previous election, that would be an issue we should be prepared to discuss.
Blodyn · 22-25, F
@Adaydreambeliever I saw those girls in Minsk. They are Europeans.
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
@Blodyn uh huh... not quite sure what that means?
