Can Justin Bieber's Holy be considered Christian music? Like gospel.

I'm pretty sure we won't be singing it in church anytime soon. It has some Christian themes but.....

@Dan193 I don't doubt anyone's salvation or their gratitude to whoever. The point I am making is it doesn't rise to what I consider good lyrics. It lacks rhythm and rhyme and clear meaning. If you find joy it it then good for you. Not criticizing you for liking it. I am simply saying that from a worship perspective I would not be picking it to sing during a Sunday service. I listened to the music and still don't care for his style. Dear Wife listened with me and she believes as I do he is talking about his wife/girlfriend not God.

@hippyjoe1955 oh haha no Sunday service song of course 😆 And yeah I understand.

@Dan193 Let me put it this way. I doubt that the writer was trying to write a gospel song. He was writing a love ballad to his wife and in doing so hinting that he is a Christian by using Christian terms and references.

This might be a helpful addition to the debate...or not.

@Frank52 I think the issue isn't about Bieber's faith. The question is if this is a Gospel song or not. I can think of hundreds of songs that were written by Christians that are not in any way gospel songs. Some of the songs I like and some I don't but that is my taste. Was the song intended to be a gospel song? I don't think it was. It was a love song to his wife. Wonderful intent on its own merit but not a gospel song.

@hippyjoe1955 True. Many 'Christian' songs these days are theologically wide of the mark. Gospel in its traditional form tended to stick to the themes of freedom and redemption in the future. Musical taste is very personal, I agree.

Yeah I’d say so, only just heard it today. Wasn’t he from a Christian background?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Fairydust I didn't know that, but I'm glad he's showing his appreciation for the path he was blessed with.

@Fairydust Looks like he's just maturing. Also I understand his motivation, because when I have emotional turmoil for weeks, I turn to God and start going to church more again, and honestly it makes me feel better. It like purifies me and I move forward stronger.
Now with the pandemic, I can't, but it's good that I really didn't need it.
