How will you honor him?

There’s going to be a quiet ceremony later today where people will kneel for 9 minutes.

I’m planning to go.

It’s merely symbolic and it’s not the same as taking action.

But it’s important that we honor his life. We should honor anyone who leaves this place, whether they go peacefully, or if their life is taken by a miscarriage of justice.

How have you or how will you honor Mr Floyd?

A little harder in the UK as we are still in lockdown.

How will I honour him?

I have sat down with my children and talked about racism. I have told them things I have seen and told them of things that they will go through. In a world when so many choose to hate I ask them to choose to love, to ask to explore all Faith's and colours and differences with respect.

My daughter, who was with my when I was racially assaulted, has finally seen a mass voice to her own feelings.

I feel so sad on this post where you are talking of honour so many people show they have a lack of it.

@pagandad Yea - go kneel and cry for a violent criminal - go kneel for being a guilty white Honkey.
@RedtheEmerald I actually think I'll use this for a thread.

I knew it -
Honor his life ? Why should anyone but family and friends honor his life. Who is he to me ?
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@MarmeeMarch I never said hero.

Every human deserves dignity.

Obviously, in his life, he meant more to his family and friends than to those who didn’t know him.

In death, we should honor him as we would honor anyone else.
@JoeyFoxx The first 2 lines were good then you went nuts and had to ruin it.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@MarmeeMarch do you have a point?
I'll be selling knee pads at the event - 2 for 10 dollars one for 7 dollars. If you want to pre order call now - operators are standing by.
I will be selling water bottles and sun shades too !!!!!
@JoeyFoxx How about I am making a joke and you are being too sensitive ? ever think of that ?
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@MarmeeMarch too sensitive?

Dude, you call people a homo at the drop of a bucket and got so twisted about my request to honor a dead man that you created another post to counter it.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
I’m not honoring him, he ultimately did something illegal but that being said I do feel bad that he was a victim of a burnt out cop with no self control.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Keepitsimple you are unwilling to honor a fellow human being?
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
What did he do for me? I’ll say a prayer for his soul and his family. I think that’s respectable and enough. @JoeyFoxx
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Keepitsimple that’s plenty. Thank you.

@UnauthorizedAccount You’ve probably already done that without knowing. Just a lucky asshole I guess.

I can't honor a criminal
@LeopoldBloom 1980s - re-read that stupid - it was the Trump corp. years prior. Anyway I am not saying he was a guilty man forever. Just that there was a pattern - you know prior histories do count in front of a judge when you get in trouble numerous times. He was just afraid of going back to jail that's why he resisted arrest and had to be pried out of his car. - [c=#666666](Now here is the part where you say - he did not deserve to die - go ahead son. Say it. I'm waiting )[/c]
@MarmeeMarch Again, who gives a fuck if he resisted arrest? If you upset a cop, he gets to kill you after he has you handcuffed and on the ground? People that easily upset shouldn't be cops.
@LeopoldBloom I am not saying the cop was right - I hate the cop - but I have to say he did not look upset -he just did the wrong thing and I hope they nail him to a cross upside down.

@PainfulTruth as I mentioned elsewhere, people who lost their lives should be honored.

What I don’t understand is the need to inflate the numbers killed during the riots.

One officer has been killed. This is too many. We should honor him.

We should also wish for a speedy recovery of those officers who remain hospitalized

@PainfulTruth can you share the information about the six? I have only found information on the Federal officer in Oakland.

George Floyd prison shirt for sale $250.00 proceeds to be used for fishing gear
MarineBob · 56-60, M
@JoeyFoxx why did he choose the path
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@MarineBob he’s not here to answer and I didn’t know him.

You are here however.

Should I assume you have no intent to answer?
@MarineBob 250 dollars - what a joke - Ill buy it so I can wipe my ass with it.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
Good question. I'm not entirely sure how to honor him, but I think his memory is worth honoring and speaking out for and supporting reform is one small way to start.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@MarkPaul thank you
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@MarkPaul Best answer on the thread, IMHO.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
How will you honor the 12 police officers killed in the riots? That had nothing to do with George Floyd’s death. That were simply doing their jobs and executing their oaths. Targeted just because they wore a badge.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@JesseInTX According to my limited research, one officer has been killed (and one retired police captain). This is far too many.

We should honor them too.

We should also keep in our hearts the officers that remain hospitalized and wish for their speedy recovery.

I'm in the UK so bit different etc.

But I will continue to say and support that #blacklivesmatter

I'll continue to fight against racism as I have done all my life.

I have his family in my prayers.
with all due respect, we don't know that these memorials necessarily honor him. Not everyone would appreciate or want a lot of public attention when they pass. He was not a public figure. If he was a father, perhaps he would want his family to have the right to mourn privately.

Memorials and funerals are generally more for the people who attend, so they can mark the end of a loved one's life and move forward. It's rarely about the person who has passed, unless they left specific directions.

Beyond what his family has specifically planned , this is just a bunch of American citizens exercising their right to do what they want. I don't think we can assume he or his family feels honored by it.
🤔
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@EmilyEdith wakes and funerals are not actually for the deceased.

They are for those of us left behind.
EmilyEdith · 56-60, F
@JoeyFoxx yes. That's what I'm saying as well. We don't know what mr. Floyd would want. He's not here to tell us if he would be honored by a giant public display by strangers.
Rickg · 31-35, M
No I’m not
I didn’t even know this guy
No idea what kind of person he was

Ppl are killed all the time, and I don’t make any extra effort to honour them
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Rickg ok
I'm still too scared to go out so I may just have a silent moment of prayer and reflection in my yard
