Coronavirus figures: Interesting or odd in terms of % ?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-51235105
Best case scenario this bug is 10 times worse then seasonal flu and it is very very contagious.

People get hung up on mortality rates like with SARS or Swine Flu but in comparison they were much less contagious.

The other problem is because it is both more deadly then flu but equally contagious it has a nasty habit of overwhelming hospitals. Many "developed" nations have dismally low ratios of ICU beds per capita. The US is one of the worst.

Once that number is surpassed the mortality rate skyrockets. That is why it is around 9% in places like Italy.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow everyone can get sick but the elderly are dying. There is a distinction.
@SW-User
The thing is though it is not just the elderly dying. Age is just one pre existing condition that works against you. Obesity and diabetes are too which means Americans could be seriously SOL.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow That is true, there a lot of at risk people. The death rate among those over 80 is disproportionately large. Could also be that elderly people are more likely to have some kind of ailment.

The purpose of the question was really all about information.
How it's collected; how figures are interpreted; how information is 'questionable' depending on whom wants to hide what etc.
And of course the fact that 'government advice' is changeable by the day.

I really think the comparison with the flu virus is a bit of a misnoma.
This disease is new. And with that it also has to be acknowledged that we have no idea what effect this may have on anything, as yet.
You cannot fully trust the numbers

Firstly China has no way given true numbers

Second many cases are not tested

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow will take a peek later. In work at the mo.
@SW-User This is particularly appropriate since it happened in Louisiana which is the prison capital of the world.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Just watched the video. Stuff I was already familiar with. It is horrendous. Though, I don’t agree that what is happening in China is child’s ply compared to this. Sorry.
