@lilangel i'm a long term veggiehead. but, in the states (and we're not alone) we use an old animal base system for adjuncts, additives, all kinds of products.
a good read is "no such thing as a vegan" which, really is about how we process animals.
though, original veganism is about 'cruelty free as possible lifestyle living' which is very hard to come by even back when the founder had incorporated the following in the 1940s.
a basic understanding was to be known in order to help progress is usage of things from our environment to help further base a better way to live so considering plenty of us animal, human, plant all have adverse reactions to things among each condition.
