May I remember Martin Luther King?

Martin Luther King was a man like any other man with flaws and weaknesses, but he was brave and noble and he suffered and died to change the face of America for the better. Imagine being sprayed with fire hoses and having police dogs attack you simply because you are marching for what rightfully belongs to you as a human being. This rural white southerner has deeply admired Martin Luther King since he first learned of his struggle for justice. There are many other Americans of African heritage who have sacrificed comfort for progress, and others who have literally saved millions of lives. Charles Richard Drew, developed the process and storage of blood plasma. George Washington Carver saved the south from economic ruin. Maya Angelou weaved words to touch the heart of humanity. The list is long, but today I remember Martin Luther King who organized people, and bravely faced ignorance and hatred to bring this country forward. Today I see black and white children playing together every day, and I see white mothers with black children. I see people judging each other by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. I know there are still obstacles and hurdles to be overcome, but Martin Luther King achieved a great victory although he paid the ultimate price in the end.
