Colt will stop making ar-15 rifles for the civilian market?

Does anyone else think that colt "ar-15"s are a bit overpriced and overrated anyway?
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
I am very glad to hear it. I think such military-grade semi-auto, large magazine capacity weapons should not be available to the public. Congress should enact a Federal Assault Weapons Ban at once. We have to take strong, aggressive action to stop the crisis of mass shootings in this country.

I have been a gun owner since I was a teenager. I've owned pistols, rifles and shotguns. No civilian has any legitimate need for these semi-auto military weapons such as the AR-15.

@badminton I respect your opinion, but I disagree with you and didn't intend this to be anyone's political pedestal.

I used to build AR's for a living, nice rifle, very ergonomic, but I never had any use for one my self. I'm sure when colt stops, 5 other companies will jump in to fill the gap.

@badminton Well I know the FN FAL was not all that accurate. What is the reputation of the FN-49?
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
@HoraceGreenley It was FN's pre-FAL rifle, probably late-1940's to early 50's. I believe it was one of the first semi-auto rifles adopted into European armies. Reviews say it is well regarded for its high quality manufacture and reliability. I owned it the '70s'-80's. It was a full-size infantry rifle, 23 inch barrel, about 9 lbs. Mine had a recoil pad on the stock, installed by the previous owner. Also, someone had cut the rear peep-sight into a V. I was able to find a replacement original rear peep-sight. I liked it because the recoil was quite mild for a .30-06, due to it's gas-operated semi-auto action.

@badminton Nice! The FAL came out after the FN-49.
Now, don't you civilian people worry, just upgrade your status to 'criminal' and you'll still be able to buy them from the boot of a car! Business as usual!
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@EugenieLaBorgia fortunately it's not to that point yet
xixgun · M
There are a number of AR-15 style rifles out there
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@xixgun enough cheaper and just as good as a colt

@Notanymore Exact-a-mundo

They stated they’re temporarily halting production and have plenty of inventory to meet market demands. Using their production resources to fulfill government contracts.
FloridaGuy · 46-50, M
Demand is high. @Notanymore
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@FloridaGuy and Bushmaster is half the price
FloridaGuy · 46-50, M
@Notanymore $900 versus $1,200 in MSRP. Go with the Bush, then.

Temporarily.

If every lame lefty was looking to cook your company, you might do the same.
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@Budwick hell i like palmetto state's approach...just make a Beto O'Rourke lower receiver
curiosi · 61-69, F
Time to boycott Colt, there is always Smith And Wesson.
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@curiosi and a long list of others
curiosi · 61-69, F
@Notanymore I'm partial to Smith and Wesson because of the Clint Eastwood movies.
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@curiosi I like Smith and Wesson.....I like Ruger revolvers just as much though
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
The feedback I've heard from people that have them is that they are excellent.
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@HoraceGreenley they're adequate.... nothing bad go say about them, but I've not seen them perform any better than much cheaper ones
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Notanymore I'll buy that. I can't remember if the people I know had Colts or something else.
Colt does make a high quality rifle. Some say it's overpriced. Others disagree. Cheaper rifles can be purchased. Far more expensive rifles can be purchased as well. Judge for yourself.

I'm certain this post will bring out the idiots who want to ban AR-15s and any other firearm that look scary to them.
@badminton a weapon of war? It's never been issued to the military.

Do you know the difference between an AR-15 and a Beretta M9? One is an actual weapon of war. The other is an AR-15.

If you were such a gun afficianado as you claim, you'd realize an AR-15 is nothing more than a semi-automatic rifle. But every liberal gun grabber has to call it a "weapon of war" or a "weapon of mass destruction" or a "killing machine" or "only belongs on the battlefield" It's a damn lie every time you say it.

By the way...how many people are actually killed by "assault weapons" on an annual basis?
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
@BizSuitStacy The AR-15 is virtually identical to the military's M-4, expect for being semi-auto and the M-4 has a few features related to full-auto/3-round burst firing. The point is no civilian has any legitimate need whatever for a firearm with a magazine capacity of more than 10 rounds.

In 2019, back-to-back mass shootings in Texas and Ohio brought the total number of mass killings so far this year to 23, leaving 131 people dead. There were 25 mass killings in 2018, claiming 140 lives, according to a database compiled by The Associated Press, Northeastern University and USA Today. Hundreds of people were wounded.

Americans are more likely to die from gun violence than many leading causes of death combined, with some 11,000 people in the US killed in firearm assaults each year. Gun Violence Archive data shows that more than 14,000 people died from gun-related violence in the US in 2018, and more than 28,000 others were injured.
@badminton oh gee...you know the difference between the military M16, M4 variants and an AR-15. Golf clap. Shall I toss you a cracker for being a good parrot?

Virtually identical is NOT identical. Why the hell do you think they don't issue AR-15s to our military? Select fire is a major f**king difference.

You can't even provide a valid reason why they should be banned. You claim to know about guns...the classic new gun grabber line..."I support gun ownership but..."

What makes the AR-15 so much more dangerous than other guns, Mr. gun expert?

How many people die each year from AR-15s v handguns?

How many bullets do you need in a gun fight?

How long does it take to swap a magazine in a cattle-pen style shooting vs a true gun fight?

Every American patriot should own an AR-15.

Anytime I hear someone parrot the narrative, "no citizen needs an AR-15" That's when you need an AR-15.

I can think of 1.1 million other reasons. That is the number of home invasions in the US. And the AR-15 is the perfect home defense firearm with a STANDARD 30 round magazine.

Molon labe, bitch.
That might just be why their supply has exceeded the demand...
Notanymore · 36-40, M
@SooperSarah I agree..... there's hundreds of are style rifles on the market right now and many of them are as quality as a colt without buying the name
Colt are not the same anymore. It would't matter anyways.
I cant say. But it is saddening.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
It’s about time.
