@Wraithorn In the culture, music has always represented rebellion against the mainstream. The results have always spoken to all kinds of people on a visceral level. Arguably rock and roll has similar roots, but it’s mostly been segregated into rock vs. R&B. Even our soul music has been segregated into something called “blue eyed soul” so that whites could participate without any reference to us.

Earlier I was reading an article by a Pakistani journalist who was bemoaning youngsters in Pakistan trying to be and speak like American gangsters and rappers. It really irked him. 🙂

@SW-User and what's gang culture like there?
Where I am, it's ridiculous, but the kids have very few other options. Instead of shooting they stab each other. Whatver, someone dies. And I watch the news every day to see if it's any of my precious students. There's no other option for some of them.
