Why is florida called the sunshine state if it rains and storms 79% of the time?

Great question. I've wondered that, myself.
@Itsjustbrit I think they have more lightening strikes than any other state. I didn't know lightening came from sunshine.

I guess they're proud of the sunny times. :) But the name would fit better with Arizona or California.

Ah what part of Florida do you live on? It sometimes depends on what area you are in, but where I’m at it usually gets pretty bad storms every year and most of the year too.@remindjeff
