If a group (like Antifa) rises up that attacks a certain type of ppl, will that hurt their cause or help it?

Suppose I started an organization that assaulted a certain type of people, let's say global warming deniers or some shit (i'm obviously not going to do that and think it would be wrong) would it just hurt the cause of climate change realists? Or like if ppl just started assaulting gun control advocates, or whoever... would it actually achieve the end goal the violent group wants?
