So, if free government run healthcare is so great...

Why is Mick Jagger coming to the United States for heart surgery?

He's rich, if the best heart surgeon lived at the top of Mt. Everest that's where he'd go.
@dumpstermeow Good luck getting a hospital bed up there!
Wait they get free healthcare and can also travel abroad for specialized procedures. We pay through the nose for shitty care that we can’t afford. Why is it so expensive in the USA?
WHAT?? You know the answer...not that I criticize the UK health system, but I'm going to get vocal here and say what many do not want to acknowledge or accept...yes we have a complicated medical/insurance situation, but the bottom line is in the U.S. you have that "Crème de la Crème" in our medical world (USA) who are the ones who will be seeing Mick Jagger and many other "notables" not from the U.S. I wish Mick all the best.
Is Mick a US/British citizen? If he is both, then I will say I stand corrected. And as you noted I'm sure I did not disparage the UK healthcare system.@Adaydreambeliever

@soar2newhighs both systems have their good and bad point.. I've paid privately for stuff.. it was faster and the service was better.. and I'd be the first to admit the NHS is stretched.. but it still works well most of the time... e.g. my son had a tumour in his nose.. first time I paid for him to have it removed.. he went to a private hospital, it was done in the christmas break as we wanted.. The tumour came back.. he was treated by the same surgeon in the same private hospital but under the NHS.. so same care.. both excellent.
I've no idea if Mick is UK/US but he does live there as lots of celebs do
Politics/nations aside, my hope is Mick is taken care of. One of the great British Invasion ICONS I grew up listening to.@Adaydreambeliever

I think he's lived in the U.S. for decades - but I love the premise of your question!

Well, because like anything it has its limitations. NHS is good, it will save your life more times than not.. However, we are fortunate that we do have a choice.. we can pay for better service, nicer rooms, more advanced procedures and better surgeons..

This is tho.. we have that choice.. if we don't have money we can just use the NHS... that's not a choice everyone has

Apparently he can afford being sick

@IstillmissEP Well the NHS is far from perfect, under funded and way too many people calling for more and more procedures and support. However, while I tend to be a critic of the NHS, they actually are good for way more than you say..

@IstillmissEP well as I say, I am not a fan. .but.. they do do their job and are audited and monitored and do have to provide certain standards of care.. it's all regulated.. Quite often rural is poorly catered for... and we do have some pretty impressive hospitals.. I can't speak for immigrant areas but believe they are also charged with providing same standard of care.. I think it's just that the service is overstretched with too many people to cater to
