But to say that women "always look for details" suggests that women have powers of observation which I don't see being expressed in other contexts

Indeed. Men and women pay attention to different things in general. That pic doesn’t turn me on like it does men. I automatically focus on other things that catch my interest like style, makeup and particularly brows.
