Ladies: Would you abort a child a child who you knew would be retarded?

Confined · 56-60, M
A friend of mine was told with both of her children they would be born abnormal and the doctor insisted she get an abortion. They were both born NORMAL. No issues what so ever.

@Confined I know a few people like that. It seems quite common that people are told their child will be born with Down Syndrome, then the child is born without it. It’s sad to think how many babies were aborted because of that who wouldn’t have had it.

Yeah, at the end of the day, the doctors can voice their opinion, but it is up to the woman to decide what she feels is best. A mother knows her own body. And she knows what she can and can’t handle.

I was asked about doing a screening for Down syndrome and deformities, when I was 18 weeks pregnant. They also said that usually the moms want to know, so in case they had a disability, she can decide how to proceed with the pregnancy. I told them that I wasn’t going to do that because I wasn’t going to have a planned pregnancy at 18 weeks. Mind you, my pregnancy was high risk, which I didn’t know I had until after I had my baby. Anyway, I knew that nothing was wrong with my son and I was right. But I also knew that had he developed a disability, I always told myself, that would be the only reason I’d put any child up for adoption. So you just know.

Every woman and pregnancy is different.

If that is the reason, and my pregnancy was planned, then my answer is NO, I would not. But I would have it and put it up for adoption, which would be the only reason I’d put any baby up for adoption. I could never raise a baby with a disability.

@MarmeeMarch You're wrong on that, plenty of people do
@BalmyNites good for them - I am sure they wish they had a better life though

I sure that every parent wish they had a better life. I know that I do. I always wish for a better life for myself, so that I can be a better mom to my kids. Parents with disabled children are still parents. @MarmeeMarch

No! I would not abort one Unless he were Republican

No. I couldn't live with myself afterwards. So if I were married and birth control failed, and if I couldnt take care of the child, I'd have to choose adoption or hire a live-in support worker.

But I couldn't judge anyone who got an abortion, because there is not enough support in this world for people who get labelled 'retarded.'
Blahblahblahblah · 26-30, F
That's a tough question. Depending on the child's disability, I would have to consider what sort of life he/she would have and make a decision from there.
Yes. That’s why I wouldn’t want to know.

Why, I'm sure the kid would get a career in Politics.
HotSouthernMess · 26-30, F

Depends on the degree of the retardness if it’s extreme cause that’s no life for a child nor the parents
MagicHappensHere · 26-30, M
At this rate, I’m surprised you’re parents didn’t abort you, don’t make fun of your kind, it’s not nice.
BalmyNites · F
@MagicHappensHere You think you're funny? Cheap jibe!
BalmyNites · F
@MagicHappensHere You mean 'your' head
BalmyNites · F
@MagicHappensHere You mean 'your' helmet - did we not do too well at school, little buddy? Is that why we're a little bully who picks on others, because we feel inadequate?
