I don’t follow. I’ve always thought of cheating as cheating and affair as extensive cheating.

I think of it as someone had a relationship with someone outside their marriage but it’s also cheating. I also think cheating by itself suggests something shallow happened outside of the marriage. And I’m not sure if that’s a good thing because it could mean someone doesn’t care about the person they cheated with and that all they wanted was something physical which I consider to be shallow. On the other hand there may have been no feelings involved. @SW-User
