Why do people call insults "roasting" nowadays?

Low level of intelligence is celebrated these days. They think they have a victory over the other person when they say something mean to them. They don’t consider the fact that the person at the receiving end may not even care, or don’t even think they are worth their attention. Roasting or whatever is usually done by people who spend all their time on the internet.

I think it stems from "burning" people, when you insult and belittle them so much.

They called them that way back too🤷‍♂️
