We went to Church every Wednesday night and Sunday. My Mom taught Sunday school. But our whole family went. My Dad did too if he wasn't working.

I didn’t grow up with a specific religion. Both my parents have different religions and as a result, I became atheist. So no, we never needed religion/church to be close. What is your view on it ?

@Lostpoet I agree with you. But yes, it also depends on the family. Would you raise your kids the way you’ve been raised ?

@SW-User I honestly don't know because my own faith is about nil right now, but I think it's important that kids have an understanding that they should treat others with compassion and understanding and I don't know if that kind of stuff can be taught on its own.

@Lostpoet I’m sure compassion, empathy, kindness, morals can be taught without religion. I wasn’t raised with religion so I might be the living proof. Lol.

The church has always been important to my family and me. When we moved 800 miles from home, my church family became my new family.

@exexec Did your kids stay in the church? And would you love them less if they didn't believe in God.

@Lostpoet Yes, my kids and their families are still active in their churches. No, I wouldn't love them any less or treat them any differently if they didn't believe in God. They are free to go their own way. In fact, my faith is a bit heretical.

@SStarfish That's cool and I'm glad you enjoyed that time with them.
@Lostpoet thanks :)
no because it was only 45 minutes a week - I dont think we went to church as a whole family anyway.
Lostpoet · M
@MarmeeMarch What? It was three hours for me plus all the arguing and bickering for everyone to get ready.

I think I would have been closer with the family if we spent that time at a park each week or something.
@Lostpoet I am Catholic and regular mass was only 45 minutes - maybe an hour on Easter and Christmas - not 3 hours.

I'm not a church goer. I was lucky and wasn't raised in church. I had a lot of family time. I cherish it to this day!🙂

@Indy74 That's what I mean it seemed like something for the parents and not the whole family.

@Lostpoet exactly! When I did go to church as a kid, I never understood what the preacher was talking about. My parents just made the decision to stop going and fam time got so much better.☺

I always liked going to church (even when I was a hungover teenager.)🍻
