Tin foil on rabbit ears
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Jm31xxx "Rabbit ears" were the old, small indoor TV antennas -- two telescoping (usually) rods of metal set in a base and each one could be moved to try and maximize TV reception. If the reception was still bad, you could attach sheets of tin foil/aluminum foil to the metal roads to try and improve the reception. Oh, and the photo I found is the "new" style -- the little rectangular antenna below the ears is for UHF reception.[image deleted]

@gmatthewb And around here some people had rotary motors on their rooftop TV antennas so they could watch both NYC and Philly TV -- sometimes, on a good day, even Hartford, Conn.
Jm31xxx · 41-45, M
@ChipmunkErnie ohhhh, I never heard them called that

@SW-User whats up with that?
SW-User
@Jm31xxx apparently it was a chemical/ingredient in dog food in the past that did this. It's not in dog food anymore hence no white dog shit 😂

@DDonde Ooo, I had one of those and "A Tour of the Solar System" with a record to go with the disk. Narrated by Walter Cronkite, it would describe each 3D image and then tell you to click to the next image.
DDonde · 31-35, M
@Jm31xxx Oh yeah. TBF, I was the third child so I think it might have been my brother's. He's in your age group.

@Reboot Wow, I never lived THAT far out -- or was that old. LOL As a kid we had 1 NJ channel, 4 Philly/PA channels, and 6 NYC channels to watch.
