I can feel bad for them being bullied in high school, or sexually abused at some point and it doesn't have to be related to their choice to hurt others. The sympathy is for the abuse they suffered not for the way they chose to handle it. The later is something no true compassionate person would have interest in.

@Miram I don't mean you can't be sympathetic to the bullying or someone going through abuse, but some people try to make it sound like these people are the true victims and they had no other choice and that's where my sympathy disappears. There is always a choice. Like in particular the person I was talking to was talking about the Columbine massacre and was saying that the two perpetrators were the real victims and that those killed deserved it because they caused the suffering of the perpetrators and keeps trying to get me to feel bad for them. I can't do it.

@NaturallyPeculiar You don't have to do it. It will not change what happened.

I agree. There’s zero justification for mass murder in my mind.

I only have like 2% sympathy for them... I currently see where these people are coming from, but the other 98%... I'm with you on that. Me on the other hand could never hurt another being. I would hurt myself first before even thinking of hurting anyone else. Never have, never will.
Why indeed. I don’t have sympathy in general so why would or should I or anyone else have sympathy for school shooters?
You never can tell whats going thru someones head. Or when they really need professional help. Its a good idea to be kind to others...... never know when they might be gettin ready to snap. surely, dont want someone walking around with a weapon thinking, "wait till i see Crush, im gonna fill his ass full of lead".
NaturallyPeculiar · 26-30, F
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy Obviously no one should bully anyone but I don't think wanting to seriously murder people- even innocent people- just because you're being bullied is ever a normal reaction. You also can't help people who don't want help which in a lot of cases that is a thing that happens.
@NaturallyPeculiar In my day, everyone had guns, at least in my area..... but, nobody shot up the school. when we had problems, we would fight, sure, but the worst thing that happened was someone got a black eye or a busted lip.

You hear the same excuse applied to child molesters ,oh they were abused themselves.Bullshit hang them high. I agree with you !

@stained Or abusers.
"Yeah, he might have almost murdered his wife and left her physically and emotionally scarred for life but he's only doing what his dad did to him! Poor baby! He shouldn't get such a harsh sentence"
While I can feel bad for the person going through something like that all sympathy leaves as soon as they harm another person. Self defense is justifiable but there is never a good excuse to hurt people just because you can/you want/it's been done to you before.

See CopperCicada's post asking about victimhood. The answer to to both questions is related.
