What does Thanksgiving mean to you?

My mom: "You should have woken up early and made the family breakfast because that's what Thanksgiving is about." Me: "...No it's not" My mom: "Then what is it about?" Me: "Slaughtering Native Americans and taking their land. Should I go out and do that?(*sarcasm*)" My mom: "... Yeah sure." My Dad in the background: "NO DON'T DO THAT!"

Hyper religious psychos sailed the sea to come rape, enslave, murder, and steal the homes of native Americans.

Well it's not supposed to be about killing American Indians but unfortunately it's very difficult to think about the first Thanksgiving without focusing mostly on that.

@BlueMetalChick I know. I was just being a smartass but yeah the first Thanksgiving definitely wasn't anything like what it is now...

@NaturallyPeculiar I'm an immigrant from Europe but I celebrate just because it's an excuse for a dinner party. And my sister makes hedgehogs every year which is absolutely to die for.

@BlueMetalChick My boyfriend and his family are from the Philippines and they celebrate it for the same reason you do minus the hedgehogs part lol. I mean it's definitely nice to get to eat dinner together.

@kingkyri It's a holiday to commemorate the first meal between the Pilgrims and the American Indians, when they were actually friends for a short while.

@kingkyri Personally I celebrate just with a big dinner, and the tradition of listening to "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie every year.
Right? Then they expect people to be thankful for that? So a feast once again is supposed to distract people from the truth of this stupid holiday.

We got rid of all our religious nutcases!
To me nothing really.. but I'm glad that my American and Canadian friends get to celebrate it with their families and friends..

@Greenbare Who's racist and a bigot? If that's what you got out of this post then either the sarcasm with over your head even though I made it clear or you probably didn't read it right...
