This is going to sound stupid but where do popcorn kernels come from on the corn?

Are they the same as the normal corn pieces. They look different though. The normal corn pieces look more square while the corn kernals for popcorn are more rounded.

There are different kinds of corn. What we buy on the cob or frozen in bags to have with dinner is usually sweet corn. Sweet corn is very different from popping corn.

They may be a different variety of corn. Some varieties of corn are meant to be eaten raw, some are meant to be dried and popped. But yes, ultimately they are all corn kernels, just different types.

You know the parts you eat? When those dry out they "become" the seeds that you plant or coat in butter and salt and then pop
