Are there any laws on shooting baby deer during hunting season?

A fb friend shot a doe, saw it was a newer mother, went back to look for the baby, then killed it! But it looked big enough to survive on its own

Ethically killing the fawn was a judgement call that hunter made concerning its ability to survive the winter and avoid predators. He just needs to tag it as legally harvested game .

Of course theirs laws against that
TexChik · F
@abe182 actually no. Doe or antlerless tags were created for that purpose. Most hunters prefer to harvest mature deer , but accidents happen

@TexChik interesting! I don't hunt deer I only hunt turkey
TexChik · F
@abe182 I do hunt , Deer and Turkey.

I have shot does and killed a fawn standing behind her with a pass through. Those things happen. The hunter going back and making the effort to kill the orphaned fawn was above and beyond. The fawn would have been killed by predators or starved . It was euthanasia. I would have probably let it go , but others feel differently

I'm not a hunter but I know and dealt with many who are and here in Virginia there are only certain days a doe can be killed and a deer has to be a certain size (a buck must have at least spike antlers) to be legal to shoot. If the laws are the same or similar there then your friend is in serious violation.
🥺 Horrible people!

The unethical deer hunters make the sport look bad for those of us who obey the regulations.

Yes it’s illegal. If you are going to hunt you need to know the rules and they shouldn’t let dumb fucks own guns...
