Okay someone who knows tax help meeeeee. I just got my first payslip, and ive just been taxed $78

I work casually, I only earned $120. and got taxed more than half my pay? Idk this doesnt seem right. I am going to ask my supervisor at work, but just wanted to ask if anyone may know why.
Also the pay slip says 'please give tax number asap' when I did actually give it to them. So idk

don't worry. you get free healthcare and education. oh wait.....

Happened to me as well, they put you on "emergancy" tax at first until you follow it up with them. You'll get it back, you've just gotta ring them up.

@Bebop is this Australia? Cause that's where I live Haha. And if that's the case I'll be happy

@SeductiveCactus That's in the UK but you deffo shouldn't be getting taxed that much anyway. That's how it goes in most countries anyway when you get your first cheque.
@SeductiveCactus In some places here there are goofy local or municipal taxes such as 'a right to work' tax and I have seen those be taken out in one chunk to catch you up when they are normally taken quarterly or some such thing.
usa? you may have filled out your w-2 wrong.
take ZERO deductions to get eh biggest paycheck

@SatyrService Australia.
@SeductiveCactus srry man.. cant help
SeductiveCactus · 26-30, F
@SatyrService Haha thanks anyways!
You can talk to the person who manages the pay cheques in your company. That would be the best person. Tax number? Like your Social Insurance Number? Again ask the payroll person.

Check with Nedkelly. He is Australian and an accountant and he helps women in financial difficulty budget and so on.
SeductiveCactus · 26-30, F
@4meAndyou is he still active on here? I might ask him.
4meAndyou · F
@SeductiveCactus I messaged him..use all lower case nedkelly...he knows you might write to him and hinted that with your low wage you should not be paying any tax at all.
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
First of all..what country are you in? and second of all...what did you even claim?
SeductiveCactus · 26-30, F
@JarJarBoom Australia, and claim? I didnt claim anything. I filled out the tax number form which asked for my tax file number then just personal details and for me to sign
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
@SeductiveCactus yea, I have no idea about Australia and how their taxes work
SeductiveCactus · 26-30, F
@JarJarBoom Haha thanks anyways!
That's a screenshot from a tax calculator at atopayg.com.

I gotta say - the headings - pay as you go, budget repair, HELP...your tax forms have a cruel sense of humor.
Fernie · F
does the slip tell you what the deductions were for?
SeductiveCactus · 26-30, F
@Fernie it just says 'PAYG tax: $-78'
Fernie · F
@SeductiveCactus girl, you NEED to go to payroll...the ones who cut the checks and put your time /hours in and ask them what the heck it is all about!
@SeductiveCactus Fernie is exactly right. Below is a screenshot from PAYG (pay as you go😋) for Australia, but it doesn't look right to me - the figures shown are, I think, translated to annual.

Go to payroll.

Many things come out of one's paychecks.
