Is the hard truth not suppose to make you feel better?

My parents are blunt and honest. They tell you straight up. They dont worry about other's feelings. Dad told me that not every person will like me and people WILL be rude and treat me bad and I need to get used to it and stop acting surprised. I was like, "Dad that doesn't make me feel any better. It made me feel even more upset." Then he said, "I wasn't trying to make you feel better. I was just stating the truth. The truth isn't always a pleasant thing to hear but it's better to hurt you woth the truth than a sugarcoated lie."
I think where they went wrong was telling you to get used to it rather than explaining ways to deal with negative people that may come into your life. Don't worry too much read how to deal with negativity in life and enjoy your life it's not all doom and gloom. You will have some great times ahead
