Im trying to understand has hip hop always been this violent or is it the younger generation changing things up?

Gangsta rap made it violent. There are other subgenres within hiphop that are not, it's usually underground though. The mainstream hip hop today, isn't even hiphop, it's like hip pop, they use techno beats and they mumble rap... I don't like this new rap.
