Isn't it weird how people change personalities when talking different languages?

PurpleHearts · 22-25, F
I know only English, but what personality do you adopt when you speak a different language?
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@PurpleHearts Apparently I'm pretty sunny when talking in Norwegian, but a snarky hoe in English? 🤷

I'm a lot quieter and nervous when in Japanese-speaking situations, but honestly that's just because Japanese is very polite and distance-oriented and I don't want to accidentally fuck up so I don't think that one counts... yet.

different languages, different cultures, different BEHAVIORS...not different personalities
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@Fernie Yo if I'm talking to one person in Norwegian and then in English I don't keep the same personality goin

Also, bruh... Personlities are formed by languages, cultures and behaviors.
Kinda but then I talk to everyone in their own language (metaphorically). For example people who talk in my first language are mostly religious (due to geographical/cultural reasons) so I don't discuss atheism or religion with them. And people who talk in my second language are more open to new discussions so I do talk to them about anything I want.

Speaking, not so much. Writing, totally. Especially when I was younger. If I was supposed to write stories in my native language I would cringe every time reading it. Just like I cringe when I read blogs of other people written in it. I am much more tolerant to English. Lyrics - the same.

Maybe it has to do with comfort level of the language?

English, I go through the full range.
Spanish, I tend to be cautious and more polite because I don't want to offend or mispronounce.

That is so true! Some people probably won't even believe it XD
Even if they're bilingual
