Because there is an amazing amount of technology in the phone.

They do make low end phones that are pretty cheap. If you need a phone and can't afford a better one, they do work. I have one as a spare.

Because people are willing to pay that much.

It's all junk.
Market conditions exist to the benefit of Apple and Samsung.
The really cheeky thing is when the start shutting down older versions of phones so you have no choice but to buy an upgraded version at hyper cost.

You can bet if Apple wasn't American they would have complained about 'restriction of trade' practices !

Mine stopped working all of the suddden it wouldn't charge anymore it kept giving me this error message even though I never had that problem before. So instead I bought the moto e5 for $60 from boost mobile. Way cheaper fuck an iphone

My guess is that it is one of those products where the price is based on the maximum they can get away with charging for it, rather than what it actually costs to make.

Can you spread the cost over 24 monthly payments? That might make it not bite all at once. That is what I did.

Because stuff being affordable and costing what they're actually worth would make too much sense...
