You’re in South America.
If you’re from Toronto, are you an American? You’re in North America.

Well... To be fair... Saying "United States citizens" is a lot harder than just calling us "Americans" so we kinda took over that name.
Thank you 🙏🙂@ForeverGrowingOld

its a language mistake that has always bugged me. why did they appropriate the term "American" , like you said, we should all be americans if we live in America and why do they call their country "America", America is a continent, not a country. they should be called united statians but even then the term "united states of America" implies all the political states of America joined together, very ambiguous. If I remember my history lessons well, it had something to do with something called "the Monroe doctrine" or something like that and they did originally choose that name thinking that one day all of the American continent would be theirs. ( this last statement is from a vague memory from over 25 years ago, not sure about it).
Because of the America in the United States of America. @reflectingmonkey
Like all of us in multi-cultural countries,
we are nationals once we attain citizenship,
but if we have two sources of origin
we participate in both kinds of cultural identity.
There is no limit to how many kinds of people can come together,
so long as each has the will to get along well,
and to celebrate and enjoy what each can share.

Yes, that is all true. However, people from Quebec would doubtless become suicidal if they had to call themselves Americans. The United States appears to be the only country that routinely calls its' populace American.
Again THANK YOU 🙏😊 @4meAndyou
If you are Argentinian, Peruvian , Chilean, Brazilian, Guatemalan, Mexican, Canadian, or from the United States, you are an American.

Haha. Never thought about it like that. We did kind of take the name of the whole continent and made it our own. Haha
I was born on this land so I don’t want to hear it.

Nationality is not about the contintent. It's about the country of origin.
